Introduction

Hello and welcome to the UP podcast, but we talk about what's up in Microsoft business applications, the power platform dynamics 365 and beyond. You’re with Lisa Crosbie and Megan Walker.

Lisa Crosbie

Hello Megan.

Lisa Crosbie

Oh

Lisa Crosbie

Lisa Hi Megan. So we’re doing a Podcast!

Megan V. Walker

What are we doing here? What are we doing? Yeah, so so yeah, so we were doing this thing, um, we've been talking about it for a while now, and now we've come to the point where we're actually going to launch something out there. So I guess maybe we should talk about why, why we're doing this?

Lisa Crosbie

Yeah, absolutely. I think for me you know the idea of putting something positive out into the world and.

Lisa Crosbie

And putting something out there where we can share things that we learn about things that we read about things that we think are exciting and knew. And to, you know, be part of that conversation and get other people to to join in that conversation with us and the name up was very deliberately the mood that was in my mind. Certainly when we when we started this.

Megan V. Walker

Yeah no, I agree. I think I was thinking about it last night and thinking about sort of positivity of like uplifting and you know upward motion upward. Like moving on, moving on with your career, moving on in the world specially with where we are today. So I think yeah it, hopefully people can take whatever they want from it.

Megan V. Walker

Hopefully they take that it's positive and an it's uplifting.

Lisa Crosbie

Yeah, I think that's absolutely our mood in our starting point. And you know, there's a lot to be excited about with this technology. I find every day there's a new thing, and in some ways for me, there's all. There's too many new things, so this is a great way of sharing that hearing from other people. What what they're doing and just continuing that learning and that.

Lisa Crosbie

That conversation about about things that we get to things that we get to work with and things that we get to learn with, especially with the power platform and dynamics 365 is our focus here.

Megan V. Walker

Yeah, absolutely. I think it might be interesting in terms of for most people I've spoken to within our community. Within the industry is kind of the The path that they've taken to to get into this and then all for Maine. I started in restaurants and that was the degree that is. It was hotel a catering.

Megan V. Walker

Institutional management with the name of it. And I did that and I worked in restaurants and manage restaurants for like 12 years or something like that, but always kind of had that geeky desire to be like a taught myself. HTML started building websites and then kind of went into which and recruitment for a little bit. Sorry Allison Bull again if you're listening, but I hated it.

Megan V. Walker

And then ended up working for the software company that made our recruitment software and then just kind of moved on and and ended up in in where I am today. And kind of really loving like what was CRM and then moving on into dynamics 365 and then now the entire power platform.

Megan V. Walker

Um and and so yeah for for me the the what you said in terms of what's going on in our community and what's going on with the power platform today is so exciting. It's so fast paced and as long as you don't get overwhelmed by that you can find your little area and and focus and learn that and then learn it and learn it and then find something else and focus and learn it and learn it.

Megan V. Walker

Um, so yeah.

Lisa Crosbie

Yeah, and I think I think it's interesting that we both have a similar and yet completely different path into this, because like you, I did not start out doing this. I have my degree, I am. I have a degree in linguistics an I'm a qualified librarian. I spent a long time working in our publishing, but like you, I always had my finger in the pie of the geeky stuff. So I worked in Book Publishing in sales and marketing jobs.

Lisa Crosbie

But I was always called on tour. I was put my hand up to be the person that would help with the CRM, which you know, sort of eventually lead into a different career path and the learning for me is is such a big positive. This 'cause I made it a huge career change. I made a, you know, a midlife career change out of something that was going on paper very well, but I felt like I wasn't learning and I wasn't growing and.

Lisa Crosbie

Then G careful what you wish for, right?

Lisa Crosbie

And then I'm just running with it because you know why not? I'm I'm here now. So I think you know, for for people listening to this where we're all coming at this from a different angle. Like there's very few people who have what you might consider a traditional career path into this, that the way that the platform is developed in, especially around solutions with low code, there's there's a.

Lisa Crosbie

There's so many different paths into this now, and you know you and I even within that focus on different areas, which is a nice complementary thing in what we're going to be, what we're going to be talking about here. I'm coming very much from the side of looking at the sales and the sales insights and then into power apps and power virtual agent sort of became my new favorite things out of that you're you're kind of complementing from from other parts of the platform.

Megan V. Walker

Yeah, absolutely. I mean, obviously I think anybody that knows my name probably knows that I do stuff about forms pro and have done that basically since before it was GA and really focusing on it because I I think originally it was I was working on a project that had voice of the customer and.

Megan V. Walker

I heard rumblings about this forms pro and so put two and two together and so I think there might be something happening here. So learn all you can about a product because you're going to implement it and then it just kind of goes from there. But then obviously we both have a love for marketing and I've started delving into the dynamics 365 marketing app as well and then just kind of.

Megan V. Walker

Anything that really takes my fancy. If you're working on a project, anyone knows you cannot go into a project and know every single thing for every single requirement that the customer is going to have, there will be those pieces where you're like, Huh? And didn't know that or you have to figure it out. Yeah, that to me is where you then share that information with others. You learn it for yourself.

Megan V. Walker

And then you give back to the community by writing A blog post or creating video, doing a presentation, whatever that platform might be.

Lisa Crosbie

The anything that takes your fancy thing is so true to you know, and again, where our jobs are different where you're doing that project work. My job is more of a technical marketing job. My my job title for real is actually an evangelist, so I'm doing a lot of training and events and.

Lisa Crosbie

And technical sales and technical marketing. So again, I'm always like I need to learn that new thing or I'm gonna share that new thing. And yeah, the some things really just do take you fancy. There's so much there to play with and to learn about and to share so you know, I think I think people can look forward to seeing to hearing about a lot of a lot of different stuff. You know, we're not really aiming here to be the.

Lisa Crosbie

Reporters on what's knew, but more where we are just in the nature of what we do in the community. In our roles, finding things that are fun and interesting to learn and share that we can bring that to you and you know, hopefully as this thing grows, hear back from others and bring others into that conversation as well.

Megan V. Walker

Yeah, absolutely. So hopefully with the podcast.

Megan V. Walker

You, as listeners kind of hear it growing and and developing and and changing as we figure out new things that we want to talk about. So likely we're going to be talking about events that are coming up. So maybe ignite, inspire um and then after what did we learn from those events? Any functionalities or features that were?

Megan V. Walker

Currently interested in ourselves or what are we currently working on? Um and then maybe we'll kind of mention a few people that we think you might want to watch out for attention to people that we're impressed with.

Lisa Crosbie

Yeah, I think I think certainly helping to lift other community content is A is a big thing that where where we're both, you know, very involved in that. And seeing what other people are writing about and one and following that. And certainly if we can help.

Lisa Crosbie

Lift that content in and get more more people knowing about the great things that are out there 'cause you cannot be an expert in everything in this platform. I think that's that's absolutely true and between us we have quite a good range of expertise. But then there's a huge range of expertise beyond what we do and what we know that we will be sharing with you and drawing on and making sure that we're kind of lifting that community content out and giving it a, giving it an even bigger.

Lisa Crosbie

Audience if we can too.

Megan V. Walker

Yeah, absolutely. So yeah. So that's what what we're going to be about.

Lisa Crosbie

Yeah, that'll be fun.

Lisa Crosbie

Yeah, I hope so.
